Beyond the Cleanroom: The 1st Silicon Saxony Sports Day was a Success
What a day! The 1st Silicon Saxony Sports Day in Dresden has been successfully completed – a joint initiative of the high-tech cluster Silicon Saxony, inspired by DAS Environmental Experts.
Together we brought one of Europe’s most important technology networks into the city, making it tangible and approachable for everyone. With unusual sports like hurling, cricket, and rugby, the event opened fresh perspectives and invited exciting encounters with Dresden’s citizens of all ages.
“Saxony and Dresden have a long tradition of microelectronics dating back to the 1960s. However, many companies in Silicon Saxony are not widely recognised by the general public. The aim of Dresden Sports Day was to provide a simple way for companies and city residents to network and exchange ideas more effectively through sport. The unique aspect of this event is exercising together and experiencing the international nature of the industry. We are delighted that so many people took advantage of this opportunity.” says Daniela Georgi, Chief Culture Officer of DAS EE.
The Sports Day offered a relaxed setting to meet leading companies – manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers of the microelectronics industry – outside their usual context. It was inspiring to see how sport can build bridges and spark conversations.

Purple Thunder Wins: Sports, Families, and a Strong Ecosystem
“Everything came together perfectly, and we had the great opportunity to demonstrate the true meaning of our hashtag #bettertogether. Silicon Saxony embodies everything needed for a strong and thriving ecosystem: dedicated people who are committed to creating a livable and vibrant region. This event truly showed the power of community and collaboration within our industry.” says Elisabeth Haufe, Chief Operating Officer at Silicon Saxony.
The day was also a great opportunity for families with children to discover the exciting world of high-tech – and to get a glimpse of the future jobs and innovations shaping our industry.
And a fun fact: our Purple Thunder Rugby Team emerged as the winner of the day!
